BOTOX® is a purified strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily limits the movement of the underlying muscles used to make facial expressions. Over time, repetitious muscle movement results in wrinkles and fine lines. 

Xeomin®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau® also use botulinum toxin, but have minor differences that affect their properties. These treatments are used in the same areas as BOTOX® and also treat lines and wrinkles.

Although wrinkle reducers, such as BOTOX®, are administered to diminish fine creases by temporarily freezing your muscle engagement, dermal fillers are a different collection of cosmetic options that add facial volume. Dermal fillers are intended to volumize gaunt-looking areas and reduce static wrinkles.

BOTOX® treatments are done as an outpatient procedure at Myint Oculo Facial Plastic Surgery. We’ll ask you to make several facial expressions, such as frowning, squinting, smiling, etc., which will allow us to determine where to place the injections. 

BOTOX® is most commonly administered between the brows, around the eyes (Crow’s feet), and throughout the forehead. Xeomin®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau® excel in different areas, and your expert injector may use more than one. 

The face will be cleansed, and BOTOX® will be injected under the skin through a fine needle, followed by a cool compress to help prevent discomfort, swelling, and bruising. You can request a numbing cream to help make the procedure more comfortable, but it generally isn’t necessary. BOTOX® injections typically take around 15 – 30 minutes.

The number of BOTOX® injections given will differ based on individual goals and the depth and severity of your wrinkles. Dr. Myint and his skilled team can determine the correct quantity of BOTOX® injections based on your desired aesthetic results and whether you wish to address the forehead, Crow’s feet, or between the eyes. 

To prolong your aesthetic outcomes, our practitioners may recommend getting BOTOX® treatments every 3 – 4 months at our state-of-the-art practice.

Xeomin®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau® are not measured in the same units, so if you switch from one product to another, you will often find that you receive a different number of units. This does not affect the effectiveness of your results.

Most patients report minimal pain with BOTOX® injections at Myint Oculo Facial Plastic Surgery. Some experience a slight pinch or stinging sensation, but this is usually brief and well-tolerated. If you are worried about pain, ask for a numbing agent to make your procedure as seamless as possible. We use small needles on purpose to limit patient discomfort with injections.

Before your BOTOX® appointment, we recommend avoiding blood-thinning medications or supplements such as aspirin and ibuprofen. This will help minimize the risk of bruising at the injection sites. In the majority of cases, it typically takes about 5 – 7 days before the full effects of BOTOX® are visible. The results usually last 3 – 4 months. You can speak to your injector about when to schedule your next appointment at Myint Oculo Facial Plastic Surgery to maintain your refreshed look. 

Xeomin®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau® use different accessory proteins or none at all, allowing them to reach the nerves and become active at a different rate than BOTOX®. Some may start working faster or last longer for some people. 

To extend your BOTOX® results, it is important to follow all aftercare instructions provided by Dr. Myint and our staff. This may include avoiding certain activities and products for a certain period after treatment. Invest in a quality skincare routine and avoid sun exposure and smoking, as these can contribute to collagen and elastin production in the skin.

BOTOX®, Xeomin®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau® injections are often ideal for patients who wish to soften the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles without having to undergo cosmetic surgery. They are also used as a preventive treatment for wrinkles. It may be an ideal therapy if you’re frustrated by forehead creases, lines between your brows, or wrinkles around your eyes. 

If you have moderate to severe skin laxity, then a surgical lift procedure may be a more suitable option.

BOTOX® typically pairs well with other aesthetic services at Myint Oculo Facial Plastic Surgery for men and women who prefer to address aging concerns. If you notice deeper and more extensive lines, our professionals might recommend incorporating a dermal filler for optimal outcomes. 

To further maximize your younger-looking radiant appearance, our team may recommend other complementary procedures, like facials.

Following the procedure, you can return to your usual activities. However, strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least one day. You will be advised to sleep with your head propped up for the first night and not to touch your face, which can accidentally spread the product to other areas. 

The treated sections may appear red, swollen, or bruised, but these side effects should dissipate over the next 2 – 3 days.
