What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift (browplasty), or forehead lift, is a popular aesthetic surgery that tightens lax tissue in the upper section of the face to achieve a smoother and younger-looking profile. A droopy brow or wrinkled forehead can oftentimes create an angry or tired appearance. This procedure surgically improves these cosmetic concerns by removing excess skin and using specialized tightening techniques. Dr. Shoib Myint is a highly trained and experienced oculofacial plastic surgeon who has performed brow lifts for many years with great success and has helped countless men and women achieve youthful, natural-looking results. Am I A Good Candidate for a brow lift?
When you grow older, skin elasticity diminishes and can cause many areas of your face to droop. This is particularly true in the upper face and impacts both men and women. When looking at yourself in a mirror, do you seem angry or tired, do you see frown lines between your brows, or are bothered by a drooping brow? Brow lift surgery at Myint Oculo Facial Plastic Surgery may be the ideal cosmetic treatment for your goals.
HOw Is A Brow Lift Performed?
A brow lift/forehead lift is generally performed with IV sedation and local anesthesia on-site within our accredited surgical facility in Las Vegas. The incision technique performed during a browplasty is determined based on the degree of skin sag, whether the forehead is being addressed, and the position of the hairline. There are different approaches that may be used:
- Traditional Incision
Also called the open browplasty incision, this places the surgical incision behind the hairline at the top of the head. The traditional incision not only conceals scars, but it also allows a certain amount of controlled lifting during the procedure. The traditional incision tends to be good for those with both frown lines and a sagging brow. - Trichophytic Incision
This incision is made right against the hairline. It allows for a more dramatic lift in the brow for patients who have a low risk of hairline recession. - Lateral Brow Lift
Also known as a temporal brow lift, the lateral technique starts the incision in the hairline slightly over the temples. The lateral incision permits the outer parts of the brow to be treated and helps to reduce sagging that is visible in the outer brows. A temporal brow lift also helps to treat Crow’s feet. - Endoscopic Forehead Lift
The endoscopic lift is a more modern technique used in brow lifts. It places multiple tiny incisions beyond the hairline and inserts an endoscope, which is pushed through the area of the eyebrow to release its attachments. Using the camera of the endoscope, the brow tissue is repositioned using stitches to lift the brow into a better position.
What ShouLd I Expect Following brow lift surgery?
Recovery after brow lift surgery varies for each patient, with more swelling and discomfort occurring with the open method versus the endoscopic or temporal techniques. In general, patients often feel slight swelling and bruising in their upper face near their brows and sometimes near their eyes. Cold compresses and over-the-counter pain medication may help decrease swelling and general discomfort. Dr. Myint advises patients to sleep with pillows propped under their heads for at least three nights following their brow lift. It is critical to avoid any movement or activities that may place pressure on the face. The average recovery time is about 6 – 8 weeks.

Brow Lift FAQ
Do I need a brow lift or facelift?
Whether you should get a facelift or brow lift will depend on where you have sagging skin as well as your goals. You should openly discuss your wants with Dr. Myint so he can help you decide what is best for you. Some patients who come in thinking they want a full facelift may find they would be better with a brow lift and vice versa. With Dr. Myint's experience, he can confidently help you create your treatment plan to give you your best results.
What technique should I choose?
Dr. Myint will go over brow lift surgery techniques in your consultation so you know the benefits. He will then help you decide on the best technique for your needs and goals. Some of the factors that may influence your technique choice are your hairline (factoring in both your current hairline and your risk of developing a receding hairline), the amount of loose skin, and how much time you can devote to recovery.
Will my brow lift results look natural?
If you have an experienced surgeon like Dr. Myint, your brow lift will look natural. He will develop your treatment plan with the right technique for your needs and goals to help you appear refreshed, not frozen or tight. During your brow lift, Dr. Myint will concentrate on removing excess skin. The remaining tissue and skin will be smoothed so your results don't lift your eyebrows too high or limit your facial expressions.
Does brow lift change eye shape?
A brow lift will not change the eye shape but it will change the eyebrow height and contour. This can make the eyes seem more prominent.
Is a brow lift permanent?
No. Including brow lifts, most surgeries last for years at a time. Eventually, gravity will cause the skin to droop over a long period of time.
